Our Friends & Fiends

No bookshop is built alone.

Ghost & Quill exists because of the people who make things alongside us, and the shops we can't walk past without going in. Some of them we work with. Some of them we just love. All of them are proof that the good stuff is made by people who care more than is strictly sensible.

These are our friends. These are our fiends.

Kindred Spirits

The people we make things with

Millie Farmer

Illustrator, Aberdeenshire. Millie draws most of the things you'll find on our merchandise shelf.

Mourn & Muse (Previously Northern Soul Scents)

Candles and scented things for people who like their atmosphere thick. We pair them with books, because reading should involve at least three senses.

Pittenweem Chocolate Company

Fife chocolatiers, and the reason our gift bundles are heavier than they need to be.

SugarBird Wines

Aberdeen, and home to our book club on the second Tuesday every month. Wine, thriller/horror, and a room full of people arguing about endings. Come along.

Our 3D artists

Some of the strangest, best things in the shop don't come off a printing press at all — they come off a print bed, layer by patient layer. Akshan Designs, Lantern Lore and Willem make the pieces we can't get anywhere else.

Our Haunts

Shops we love, in no particular order

A haunt is somewhere you keep coming back to. These are ours — independent shops run by people who know their stock, remember your name, and will happily lose an hour talking to you about it.

If you're near any of them, go in. Buy something. Keep them here.

Highland Moss — Aberdeen

The best plant shop in the city, and the reason our flat is more jungle than home. Plants pair better with horror than people think — eco-horror, Little Shop of Horrors, anything with roots where roots shouldn't be.

Annie's German Bakery — Aberdeen

A proper café with properly good food, and the best place in the city to sit with a book you've just bought. Every fairy tale worth reading involves someone being lured somewhere by baking. We understand completely.

Old School Vintage — Balmedie

A proper secondhand antiques shop, and the source of most of our haunted objects. We go in for a browse and come out with something that was almost certainly somebody's before it was ours.
