Well — we did it. On Tuesday 3rd June, Ghost & Quill stepped out from behind the screen and into the real world for our very first pop-up shop, at NeoSpace Aberdeen. After months of existing as pixels, parcels and full-moon newsletters, there were finally actual books on actual tables, being picked up by actual humans. I may never recover. For those who couldn't join us: picture trunks converted into bookcases, spilling over with horror, Gothic fiction and darkly beautiful things — our pre-loved Second Chapter treasures sitting alongside brand-new releases, with stickers, pin badges, scents from Northern Soul Scents, chocolate from the Pittenweem Chocolate Company — rounding out the wickedness. My mum always worried I'd run away with the circus. Turns out I built my own — it just has more ghosts and considerably better books. Why pop-ups? This was never meant to be a one-off. The NeoSpace event marks the beginning of our travelling bookshop — Ghost & Quill's journey towards a permanent Aberdeen home, one haunting at a time. Popping up in different spaces lets us bring the shop to you, meet Spooky Readers where they are, and learn what our community wants before we put down roots. Think of it as a bookshop that refuses to stay buried. An enormous thank you to NeoSpace Aberdeen for hosting us so warmly for our first outing — and to everyone who pre-ordered, turned up, or cheered us on from afar. What's next? The trunks are packed and the travelling bookshop will rise again soon.
